Boys’ Lacrosse Coaches 2017:

Andy Gruber, Head Coach, Varsity:  Coach Gruber is entering his 17th season with the Irish, amassing over 200 wins and is one of the winningest coaches in Indiana high school lacrosse history.  During his tenure, the boys’ team has won 3 IHSLA State Championships, was State Runner-Up 6 times, and played on IHSLA Final Four Championship Weekend 12 times.  Under Coach Gruber, Cathedral has produced 98 All-State players and 8 U.S. Lacrosse All-Americans.  Coach Gruber has been named Indiana Coach of the Year on 3 occasions, and also coaches the Under Armour All-American Midwest Team in the summer All-American Games.  Coach Gruber played his collegiate lacrosse at The Ohio State University.  Coach Gruber is a partner in the law firm of Bingham Greenebaum Doll LLP, and resides in Fishers with his wife, Lisa, and three sons Jacob (’17), Noah (’19), and Peter.

Ryan Haas, Assistant Head Coach, Defensive Coordinator, Varsity: Coach Haas joined the Irish in 2002.  As Cathedral’s defensive coordinator, Coach Haas has developed multiple all-state defensemen and three U.S. Lacrosse All-Americans.  Cathedral’s defense has been the team’s hallmark under Coach Haas’ leadership and is consistently one of the highest rated units in the state.  Coach Haas was named IHSLA Assistant Coach of the Year in 2013.  Coach Haas played for Butler University’s Division I program, and was an All-American defensemen at Regis Jesuit in Denver, CO prior to college.  Coach Haas resides in Indianpolis and is engaged to be married in 2018.

Kyle Mates, Offensive Cooridnator, Varsity:  Coach Mates enters his 4th year with Cathedral.  Coach Mates was an All-State Attackman and standout on Cathedral’s 2005 state championship-winning team.  Thereafter, Coach Mates played collegiatly for Bellarmine Univeristy and Trine University.  Coach Mates also played professionally in the Ontorio Lacrosse League.  Coach Mates has signficant coaching experience prior to Cathedral with the Noblesville youth lacrosse club and as the coach for Butler’s Club Lacrosse Team.  Coach Mates lives in Indianpolis with his fiancee.

Pete Snyder, Assistant Coach, Varsity:  Coach Snyder enters his 3rd year with the Irish.  Prior to Cathedral, Coach Snyder spent 7 years in HSE’s youth lacrosse program, winning two middle school state championships as a head coach.  Coach Snyder grew up in Westchester County, New York and played lacrosse at the University of Notre Dame in the ealry 90’s as a long-stick-midfielder.  Coach Snyder resides in Fishers with his wife, Kimberly, and children Brock (’18), Payton (’20), and Brody.

Sam Hill, Goalie Coach, Varsity: Coach Hill enters his 8th season coaching the Irish goalies.  In that time, Coach Hill has developed three All-State Goalkeepers and has worked wonders developing talent at the position.  Coach Hill has a long coaching history at the high school and collegiate level prior to Cathedral.  Coach Hill and his wife, Jean, reside in Lebanon with their beautiful baby daughter.

Dr. Kevin Rodgers, Special Assistant, Team Physician, Varsity:  “Doc” begins his 15th year with the Irish.  An indespensible asset to the program, Doc provides everyday guidance and assistance on and off the field.  Doc played club lacrosse at the University of Virgina following his military career.  Doc and wife, Ruth, reside in Indianpolis and have had a son on each of the Irish Boy’s Lacrosse state championship winning teams.

Scott Kolb, Special Assistant, Varsity:  Coach Kold enters his first full year assiting the Irish.  Coach Kolb has a long youth lacrosse coaching career and is the driving force behind the St. Simon CYO Lacrosse Program.  Coach Kolb played collegiately at the University of Maryland and John Carroll University.  Coach Kolb resides in Indianapolis with his children, including current player, Kevin (’18).

Trevor Blossom, Head Coach, Junior Varsity: Coach Blossom is in his first year helming the Junior Varsity team.  Coach Blossom played lacrosse at Noblesville High School, continuing to play at Div. III Mount St. Joseph before ending his college career playing club at Indiana University.  Coach Blossom’s previous coaching positions included stints at Center Grove High School and DePauw University.  Coach Blossom is recently married and resides in Indianapolis.

Matt Musser, Assistant Coach, Junior Varsity:  Coach Musser is in his frist year assiting the Junior Varsity Team.  Coach Musser is a 2013 Cathedral graduate, where he was a All-State attackman and stand-out on the 2013 state championship-winning squad.  Coach Musser continued his playing career at Div. III Birmingham-Southern, where he was a two-year starter before injuries cut short his career.  Coach Musser is a great addition to the program.

Markus Saba, Head Coach, Freshman:  Coach Saba is entering his second year coaching the Cathedral Freshman Team.  Prior to joining the Irish, Coach Saba coached as a Varsity Assistant with HSE, and was a long-time youth coach in the HSE lacrosse program.  Coach Saba also has a strong summer club coaching history with True Lacrosse, Titanium Lacrosse, and MadCats.  Coach Saba’s most memorable experience at Cathedral has been the annual CBC Freshman Lacrosse Tournament and being with the staff during the 2016 state championship tournament run.  Coach Saba played Division I lacrosse for Penn State University.  He is married with four children, including two at Cathedral.

Kevin Maher, Head Coach, Freshman:  Coach Maher is entering his second year as Assistant Freshman Coach.  Coach Maher has eight years of coaching experience at the youth level with the St. Louis de Montfort CYO Lacrosse program.  Coach Maher’s prior career saw him working as an athletic trainer with Division I lacrosse programs at Rutgers, Butler, and Syracuse University.  Coach Maher and his wife, Bobbi, reside in Fishers with their children Jim (’19), Riley (’21), and Ella.
