The Cathedral varsity girls tennis team won the Indianapolis City Tournament Monday evening with 50 points. The team won all 5 positions led by returning state champion Maeve Koscielski at #1 singles and her sister Claire Koscielski at #2 singles.
The #1 doubles team of KK Combs and Cole Spau played one of their better matches together so far this year and won in straight sets.
The #2 doubles team of Cassie Kronenberger and Bella Montefalco finished out the doubles sweep with a straight sets win over Bishop Chatard.
The lone drama for the night was at #3 singles where Rachel Long got off to a shaky start and lost the first set to a very good player from Heritage Christian. After getting further behind in the second set, Rachel showed tremendous resiliency, picked up her game and won 11 of the last 12 games to close out the match.
Up next for the Irish is a first round sectional match vs. Bishop Chatard at North Central High School on Wednesday.
