September 27, 2017. The Irish Men’s soccer team claimed its first City Championship since 2012 on September 27, 2017. The Irish put on a thoroughly dominating performance en route to the title, outscoring opponents in the four matches by a combined total of 17-1. The Irish began the tournament with a 3-0 win against visiting Northwest on Friday evening. On short rest the next morning, they shut out Shortridge, winning 8-0. In the semi-final, the Irish took on 2nd seeded Covenant Christian, winning 2-1. In the finals, the Irish outgunned top seeded Cardinal Ritter HS, winning 4-0. The Irish set the tone early on goals by Senior Clay Troyer and Junior Jacob Schneider. As the match went on they mounted several more attacks, scoring twice, with one goal each by Schneider and by Senior Trey Kapsalis. Following the tournament, the Irish improved to 10-6-2 on the season and began preparations for Sectionals.
